Sue was born and raised in Fort Wayne, but for a period of 14 years she lived in various places, including Oklahoma, California, the Panama Canal Zone, Michigan and Florida. She moved back to Fort Wayne in 1981. 

Sue attended Indiana University, Southwestern State College (Weatherford, OK), Panama Canal Zone Junior College, and Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne, where she completed a series of business and accounting courses.

Sue has worked for Phil Knapke since May 1988, and currently does the bookkeeping/accounting functions for the shopping centers and other commercial developments that Phil manages.
